  • 77 Local: This is the standard "workhorse" of the line. It travels through the Oranges (West Orange, Orange) and Livingston, often utilizing Main Street and Northfield Avenue. It provides the most comprehensive stop coverage but is the slowest variant due to the number of local intersections it services before hitting the highway.

  • 77 Express (77X): These trips are designed to shave time off the commute by bypassing the denser local street grids in the Oranges. Instead of stop-by-stop navigation on Main St, the 77X typically utilizes Route 10 or I-280 more aggressively, focusing on picking up passengers at major hubs like the Livingston Mall Park & Ride or the Essex Green Shopping Center before heading straight to NYC.

  • 77L (Livingston / West Orange): Often used to denote trips that specifically focus on the Livingston/West Orange corridor, sometimes utilizing the Garden State Parkway to bypass local traffic.

  • 77XE (The "UN" Variant): While most 77 buses terminate at the Port Authority Bus Terminal (42nd St & 8th Ave), the 77XE is a specialized variant that continues across town or utilizes a different tunnel/bridge path to serve the United Nations and the East Side of Manhattan.
